She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlos Navarro. Lupe married Juan Lucero in 1997, and they enjoyed 15 years of marriage until his death in 2012.
Lupe was born May 29, 1937, in Van Horn, Texas. She was educated in the El Paso school system graduating from Jefferson High School in 1955 where she was recognized as Jefferson’s most athletic female in her senior year.
Lupe became a mother in 1956 with the birth of Carlos and enjoyed the loving role as mother to four more children. Although motherhood kept her busy, she still found time to work throughout her life at a variety of locations to provide additional income in support of her children. Her jobs included Lolita’s Dress Shop, Farah Manufacturing, Westinghouse Co., and New Avenues of Hope, where she worked with special needs adults.
She enjoyed participating in sports throughout her life including bowling, ballroom dancing, and water aerobics. In a memorable event, she even biked 60 miles round trip to New Mexico, without any prior training, to support her son’s biking hobby.
Lupe was an active member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the San Juan Senior Center. She was proud to have been selected the San Juan Senior Center Queen in 2009.
Lupe enjoyed a reputation of being a strong woman, dedicated to both family and friends. Her family and friendships were clearly her highest priority. Throughout her life, she made it a point to attend every significant family event - from marriages, to births, to baptisms, to communions, to graduations, to promotions, and to retirements. It was important to her to set an example of unyielding support. Her physical presence will be missed, but her spirit and love will permeate throughout all her family for the rest of their lives. The Rock of the family lives on.
