Harold Wessley Spores, 96, passed away on November 12, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1921, in Malden, Washington. He was the only child of his parents, Claude Ernest Spores and Evelyn Ione Steidle. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife C. Jeane Loranger, uncles George and Herbert J. Steidle and Cousin Gordon H. Steidle. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by children Claudia L. Bernt (Richard), Craig Spores (Susan) and Carla A. Davis.
Harold served with the USAAF during WWII, flying B-17s and B-24s. After the war, he continued to fly with the National Guard and USAF Reserve, retiring with the rank of major. His love of flying led him to a career with Continental Airlines from which he retired as Captain and former Chief Pilot.
Harold enjoyed handball, racquetball, jogging and, later, walking. His love of horses and riding started as a boy and continued in later life, including membership in and former president of the El Paso Sheriff’s Posse. This included participation for him and his horse in the annual Sun Bowl Parade.
