

Hilario Tovar Jr. (aka Shine), 63 passed away on January 7, 2016 surrounded by family in El Paso, Texas. Born in El Paso, Texas, he was the son of Hilario and Rosa Tovar. He attended and graduated from Bowie High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, and retiree of the United States Postal service. He was a member of the Aubelitos de los Bowie Bears and was an avid supporter of Bowie High School Football, Baseball, and Basketball. He was an immensely generous man and never met a stranger. His pride and joy were his children and the Bowie Bears. He holds the record for most touchdowns and points in a single season beating out the old record held by Nolan Richardson, with 13 touchdowns and 84 total points. He was also the recipient of all state and all district honors at Bowie High School as well as Bowie Memory Lane Committee award recipient for outstanding sports achievement. He was the oldest son of four brothers and had six sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Martinez, and son’s Hilario Tovar III., and Michael Tovar. He also has nine grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 12:15 pm on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
