Obituary for Hope Rubi Benitez August 1, 1919-February 24, 2018 On February 24, our beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor passed away at home into the loving hands of our Heavenly Father surrounded by her children. She was 98. Hope was born in El Paso,Tx to immigrant parents Juan and Adoracion Rubi; one of six. She was a woman of great strength, faith, love and was the rock of the family. She always helped where she could and when she was asked. This would be her defining persona throughout her life. During the depression years, she took a job to help her family and sacrificed her high school education. The job was with the Wilkie family who had their granddaughter , Sandra Day , with them. Mom was her nanny from age 2-6. Sandra Day would later become Sandra Day O’Connor, who became a Chief Justice for the SCOTUS. Mom also worked for the Aaronson Brothers for many decades managing Jeans Hosiery Shop. In 1948, she married her beloved husband Alfred Benitez, whom she was married to for 45 years before his passing. She was a wonderful wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, confidant and friend to all who knew her. She was an extraordinary gardener who loved flowers, especially roses and always maintained a beautiful landscape. And not to be forgotten, all her little doggies who accompanied her , especially her last three, Duchess, Princess and Baily. Hope is survived by her children Alfred Mark Benitez and Elizabeth Ann Deaner, grandchildren Jacqueline Deaner- Rivera and Michael Todd Deaner, her last surviving sibling Martha Cervantes and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks and gratitude to Bien Vivir and the entire staff, including Dr Vandshekari, and her caregivers, Emma Garcia and Angie Macias. A special, heartfelt thanks to the St Raphael Parish Community, and the Catholic Daughters of America for their love and compassion shown over the years to our “mom” and to our neighbors and special friends in Cielo Vista Park . Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Dr., from 5-9pm with the Rosary reciting at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 01, 2018. Funeral Mass will be held at St Raphael’s Parish, 2301 Zanzibar on Friday, March 02, 2018 at 11:30am. Burial will be at Ft Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Blvd. at 1:30pm. Mark, please know we share in your sympathy and grief during this time. We admire your devotion to your mother's needs during her last days with us. Your mother was a beautiful and amazing woman who blazed a trail of her very own in life. Our prayers are with you and your family during this time of sorrow and grief. Mark, my wife Lina, will be undergoing knee replacement surgery on the same day your mom's services will be taking place. We sincerely regret not being able to be there for you and her services, but look forward to catching up with you as soon as circumstances allow.
