Hoyt Lafayette Ward Sr. was the ninth child of twelve children born to Edmund D. and Clorie F. Ward, on July 22, 1935 in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Ten of his siblings proceed him in death.
Hoyt graduated from Double Spring Elementary School in 1948. He graduated from Dunbar High School Atoka, Oklahoma in 1952 . He also graduated from Langston university in Langston, Oklahoma 1956 with a Bachelor's degree in agriculture, specializing in dairy science management.
In 1956 he was drafted into the army. Hoyt retired from the army in 1983 at the rank of SGM (Sergeant major). His decorations are, Legion of Merit, MSM, National Defense, Army Accommodation, eight awards for good conduct, and many other. He spent three Tours in germany, two in korea, one in Taiwan, he was station in alaska when statehood was granted.
Hoyt joined omega psi phi fraternity in 1954, at langston university.
Hoyt married Mattie Zell White in 1975 together they had five children, Reuben Daniels, Reggie Daniels, Hoyt L. Ward ii (Caroline), Sonja Coleman (Joe) and Zandra W. Ward. Five grandchildren, Temisha Daniels, Maurice L Ward, Adonis Coleman, Steve Titsworth, Shari Ward. Great grandchild Madison Brown.
He joined Saint Palms United Methodist Church in 1975. He was very active in the church. He was chairman trustee board, member church council, usher, and Chairman of day care board. Maintain flag pole and purchased both flags when needed. Hoyt volunteered at the VA clinic for 20 years. He was given the community service medal by president of the united states.
His hobbies was playing golf and dancing.
