Humberto Lopez

Humberto "Beto" Lopez passed away on Thursday May 4, in the presence of his loving family after succumbing to cancer. Beto was born in Juarez, Mexico March 12, 1947 and grew up in the area of El Paso known as Segundo Barrio. Flourishing from these meager means his adult journey commenced with his graduation from Bowie High School's class of 1966. While at Bowie he thrived on competition and playing sports, particularly football and baseball. Beto made many lifelong friends and fond memories that he enjoyed to recount during social gatherings. He was drafted during Vietnam where he served for two years with the U.S. Army. Beto was married to his beautiful and loyal wife Mary on February 23, 1974; they were married 43 years. After completing his service in the Army, he then attended the University of Texas at El Paso while working at Architectural Products to support his family until he earned his degree in Economics 1978. In 1979, Beto and his father Carlos Lopez started a fruitful family business, El Paso Steel Doors and Frames that allowed him to give back to his community. Beto is preceded in death by Carlos Lopez, Maria Lopez and Carlos Lopez Jr. He is survived by his wife Mary Lopez, daughters Monica Sandoval (Desi) and Mary Jo Chacón (Daniel), granddaughters Taylor Sandoval, Madelynne Sandoval, Daniela Chacón and Ella Chacón, sisters Socorro Ramirez and Delia Lopez. Humberto left us as a proud son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, Bowie Bear, patriot, UTEP Miner, and Catholic. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, May16, 2017 at F.D.A. Martin East with a Vigil at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
