Hunter also known as “Easy”, by family and friends for his calm and easy-going attitude and “Papo” by all the grandchildren has gone home to heaven.
Born in Juno, TX in the south west corner of Val Verde county to parents Braulio and Dolores Estrada.
The youngest of 6 children 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
As a young man he followed in his father’s footsteps as a sheep shearer, cowboy, and ranch hand at a local ranch. At the young age of 17 he convinced his parents to allow him to join the United States Army. Reluctantly, his father signed the documents that would ultimately be his passport to the world. He bravely fought and served in the Korean War. He retired honorably 20 years later at the rank of Staff Sergeant. His pride in the United States and its Military would be evident till his final days.
Father of five children; two from a previous marriage, Jaunito and Sylvia, (estranged) and three children; William, Joshua, and Hunter Jr. he shared with his wife Amanda Quartermane… his “Sweetheart” of 49 years of devoted marriage.
In his lifetime he would see the birth of 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, all of whom he adored. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad, formerly Southern Pacific, with a 25-year career as a Locomotive Engineer.
He loved hunting and horsemanship, along with a late in life passion of motorcycles he shared with his youngest son.
Hunter was a craftsman in woodwork and welding. He was an expert automotive mechanic. “What he can’t do can’t be done” his loving wife would say.
From the dirt roads of his country hometown to his trips around the world and the endless train tracks he traveled for work; it is certain that he could not have envisioned the fullness of life he would experience.
He passed away in the presence of his youngest son who stated, “It was the honor of my life”, to hold his father on their final journey.
Heaven welcomed “Papo”, and we are promised to be reunited again one day. - in Jesus Name.
