Ignacio Gardea, age 84, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 25, 2021. He was a native of El Paso, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corrine Gardea; his parents- Rodolfo and Dolores M. Gardea; his sister, Laura Gardea; and his brother, Rudy Gardea. He is survived by his brother Leo Gardea (wife- Maria) and family, his son Anthony Gardea (wife- Marianna) and family, son David Gardea (wife- Elsie) and family, son John Gardea (wife- Sandra) and family, daughter Iris Gardea, stepdaughter Sylvia Cavazos and family, and stepson Manuel Cavazos and family.
Upon graduating from Bowie High School in El Paso in 1954, Ignacio enlisted in the Navy as a seaman, serving on the USS Kearsarge amphibious assault ship. After the Navy, he began a 27-year career in the El Paso Fire Department, retiring in 1986 from Station 21. In his years after retirement, he spent his free time traveling the US and internationally, enjoying many cruises and guided trips. Ignacio loved singing and dancing to mariachi music, especially live bands. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren and other family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be at Hillcrest Funeral Home, on February 4, 2021 from 11am-1pm, with the “Last Alarm” rung at 11:30am by the El Paso Fire Department. Due to COVID restrictions, only immediate family will be attending. A virtual service can be viewed at the following link:
