Irma is also survived by her four-legged children: Mickey, Chloe, Ashley, Britney, Celina, Andrea, Sophia, Nicole and Chiquis Rivera.
Irma Hepp graduated from the Lydia Patterson Institute in 1977, where she received numerous awards and recognitions such as Lady in Waiting and winner of numerous beauty pageants.
Irma’s gift was floral design. For over thirty years, she practiced and perfected this labor of love as a florist for many stores, including Save-N-Gain, The Food Emporium, later Furr’s Supermarkets and Albertson’s Stores. During her career as a florist, she earned numerous prestigious awards including 1st and 2nd prize in the Presidents Cup for increased sales during holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. Eventually around 2009, Irma retired from the retail floral business to be closer to and to take care of her mother, Maria, who was battling Alzheimer’s Disease. After Maria’s death in 2011, Irma had decided to pursue a position as a Pre-planning Advisor with Service Corporation International, assisting countless El Paso families, over the course of many years, with planning ahead for their funeral and cemetery needs. After many successful years as an advisor for planning for the future, Irma decided to switch positions and assist as a funeral attendant with families experiencing the loss of a loved one at Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central where she assisted many families during a very painful time in their lives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Irma decided to return to floral design, but this time as the owner of her own flower shop, Serenity Flowers and Gifts. In September of 2020, in the middle of the worst pandemic of our time, she opened the shop and started to build the business from the ground up. Eventually, Irma became very ill early in 2022 and was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer in April. With the odds stacked against her and an intense pain ever present, she courageously fought, even after doctors gave up. With her sons by her side, Irma took her final breath in the early morning hours, finally resting, on May 26, 2022.
Mom was always and will forever be known as a fighter even unto her last hours of life. She leaves behind a legacy of never giving up, working hard in life no matter how tired you are, and in her own words always leaving room for improvement.
We would like to thank all of the numerous persons and organizations that donated to Mom’s go fund me account during her fight against cancer. We would like to thank Houston Methodist Hospital for their excellent care, in particular the day and night nurses for their professionalism and compassion during a very difficult time. In addition, we would like to thank the Burzynski Research Clinic in Houston for their efforts and gentleness in helping Mom fight this terrible illness.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Humane Society of El Paso.
