Irma and I went to college at about the same time and this is how I remember her. The last time I saw her, she was about to sing a concert with the Bruce Nehring Consort at Loretto Academy. I was very sorry to hear of her passing.

Beautifully voiced Irma was a valued member of the Mastersingers of El Paso (1975-79), a quartet who performed in concerts, clubs, and the Chamizal Memorial Theater. See previous photo of 3 members submitted by Robert L. Schneider on May 22.

To the PORTILLO FAMILY:
Irma was a great teacher with a lot of love, compassion, and strength. I worked with Irma at Schuster.
She taught a couple of my children (who are now grown).
You will be missed, but always loved.
Now you can rest in Lords arms knowing "Job done my faithful one"

Your mom was a fantastic teacher! Not only I was privileged to be in choir at Dowell under her direction, but I also took guitar with her when she taught it as an elective. After 30 years, I can still pluck out a melody on my "old guitar" that she wrote for our class to learn. Will never forget the tune nor her. She is now truly singing with angels in a heavenly and sharing her wonderful voice with God.

Dearest Hope and Sal, I have thought often about you, your father and your mother and I of course have some of the most cherished memories spending time with your mom as a student and friend. She instilled in me the passion and drive to be the musician and educator I am today and I will never forget the impact she had on my life and the lives of so many of her students. She has left an imprint that no one will easily forget! Although my heart is very heavy, I know with no doubt that she is at the throne of God rejoicing and singing as she did so beautifully while she was in our midst. Please know that her legacy lives on through you and so many of us that admired and loved her.
In His Love and Mercy...... may God Bless all of you at this time,
Frederick "Cameron" Sullenberger

Irma and I were colleagues in the faculty at Pasodale school. She was a total delight to be around. Her sense of humour was a sterling proclivity she had and always kept me in stitches. I considered her my best friend at Pasodale. I have always missed her sense of humour and her persona. She was absolutely remarkable.

Dear Hope and Sal , Your mom will be greatly missed by all of us. We loved her spontaneous humor and her wonderful laugh. I will never forget seeing her performance in " Madam Butterfly " at UTEP. We cant forget the good times we had with her when we would watch Tiger Woods play golf and her laughter would fill the room. We will remember her for her deep faith in God and the fact that she practiced what she preached. We will miss her but we know that Sal Sr has prepared a place for her beside him and their eternal life has just begun.

Dear Hope and Sal -
Your mom was my 8th grade music teacher at Dowell Elementary school. Through that encounter, her and your father became very dear friends of my parents. When my dad passed away in '93, they were a source of strength for my family. Over the years I've kept in touch with her - and she bragged about you two and would show me pictures. My last two trips to El Paso included enjoyable visits with Ms. Irma. She missed your dad tremendously. As of yesterday, she is now reunited with him and with Her Savior, Jesus Christ. To quote a song I heard, "Weep not, weep not she is not dead - she is resting in the bosom of Jesus." Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
