Jim was born on November 11,1942 to Micheal J. Egan and Powell Parker Egan in Louisville, KY. He also had a beloved stepfather, Warren Dobbs. Jim will be greatly missed by his sister, Pat McGaughey (Mac) and brother, Mickey Egan (Patsy).
He was married to Jeanette Pitts Egan for 53 years at time of death. He has six children. Two from his first marriage, which preceded him in death. James “Jimi” Egan (Toni Egan) and Warren Egan. He will be greatly missed by James Blackwell (Romelia), Jay Blackwell (Karla), John Egan (Tiffany) and Joni Egan Otherson. Jim has nine beautiful grandchildren and five beautiful great grandchildren.
Jim entered the Army in 1961 and served his Country for 21 years. Once retired from the military he started a new career path with the El Paso Times Newspaper where he worked for 20+ years. He was both a District Sales Manager (DSM) and a Zone Manger where he was consistently awarded DSM of the Month and was Zone Manager of the year in 1991.
Jim had a great love for animals that he inherited from his dad and eventually moved from EL Paso, Tx to just across the border to the boonies of Chaparral, NM so he could have a miniature farm that included goats, hogs, potbellied pigs, a donkey, rabbits, ducks, geese, guinea hens, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, and of course cats and dogs. Slowly, over time as he aged, he was not able to manage the farm as much as before. His best friend Felipe “Phil” Urquidi (Lily Bettencourt) of 20+ years helped him out with the farm until eventually Jim had to give it up all together due to his failing health. Phil was a wonderful friend to Jim and was there for him all the way until the end. The Egan family will forever be grateful to Phil.
Jim had such a funny sense of humor and a joke for everything. He brought so much laughter to the people he met during his lifetime. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and not ask for anything in return. He was such a great mentor to many people. He was greatly loved, will be greatly missed, and his memory cherished by all those who loved him.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:15 PM at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, TX 79936. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906.
