

James S. Huff, 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. A native El Pasoan, Mr. Huff graduated from Austin High School and attended the University of Texas for 2 ½ years prior to volunteering for service in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. As a 2nd Lt., Mr. Huff was an instructor for advanced flight training as well as a piloting B-17s and B-29s.
Shortly after his return to El Paso at the conclusion of WWII, he went to work for the White House Department Store as boys wear buyer. In 1952 he opened Huff’s Boys Store and began Huff’s Boy’s Club with a membership of nearly 500 boys ages 6 to 18.
Mr. Huff went on to become sales manager and president of Bauman Outdoor Advertising, retiring in 1990.
A gifted athlete, Mr. Huff was the Texas State high jump champion his senior year at Austin High School. In his twenties and thirties, Mr. Huff won many singles and doubles handball tournaments in El Paso and Juarez. He was also an avid golfer, joining El Paso Country Club in 1947 and was a member there a record 60+ years.
Mr. Huff was a member of the Church of St. Clement, an active supporter of the YMCA for 40 years, a member the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, Director of Sun World Savings and member of Los Viejos.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Stevenson Huff and parents Henry P. and Iva Mae Huff. He is survived by his children Jeffrey J. Huff (wife Nancy Huff), Mary Huff (partner Laurie Branes) and Jay Huff Morran (wife Danielle Morran), grandchildren Matthew Huff, Emily Branes Huff, Luke Branes Huff, Michael Morran and Dylan Morran as well as brother Henry Phillip Huff Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 5pm to 8pm at Martin Funeral Home West. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 9:30am.at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, with military honors. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 25, 2011 at the Church of St. Clement, reception following.
