Janice Hunter

Born on April 15, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, Janice lived a life defined by love, kindness, and devotion to her family and friends. On March 10, 1968, she married the love of her life, Walter E. Hunter, in New York City. Together they built a family and shared a bond that lasted throughout their lives.

As the devoted wife of a United States serviceman for more than 20 years, Janice embraced military life with remarkable strength, resilience, and grace. In 1977, she and Walter moved to El Paso, Texas, where they built a beautiful life together, raised their family, and found the place that would forever become home.

Janice was known for her warm smile and generous spirit, with a natural ability to make others feel welcome and cared for. She extended that same compassion to everyone she met, offering support, encouragement, and friendship with no limits.

She was an incredible cook whose kitchen was always filled with delicious meals, laughter, and the people she loved. She found great joy in hosting family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and parties, creating cherished memories around her table.

Janice’s passion was her family. She poured her heart into raising her children. She volunteered at their schools, was the dedicated team parent for every sport her daughter played, and was always her loudest cheerleader from the sidelines. When a coach was needed, Janice stepped up without hesitation knowing nothing about the sport, always eager to support the children around her, make sure they had fun, and help them feel confident and valued. Her love, strength, and one-of-a-kind spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Esther Spain; her mother, Jennette Hall; her beloved husband, Walter E. Hunter; her nephew, Leon Brooks; and her best friend, Carmen Valenzuela.

She is survived by her son, Jesse; her daughter, Wendy; her grandsons, Tyson and Jasiah; her sister, Joyce; and countless extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8th at Martin Funeral Home West with a vigil beginning at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on July 9th at Loretto Academy Chapel at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest in eternity alongside her beloved husband, Walter.

Her legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to family will never be forgotten.
