

Jean graduated from Paul Quinn College in 1953 with a B.S. in General Science and Home economics. While in college Jean met her husband Chester Ester Jordan and they had a lovely courtship before marrying in 1954. Jean and Chester were married for 52 wonderful years before Chester preceded Jean to the Lord in 2006. Jean’s marriage produced three wonderful kids who she raised while at the same time teaching at Lydia Patterson Institute for nine years, before continuing her teaching career at Ysleta High School for twenty three years. Jean was an educator for thirty two years in El Paso before retiring in 1996.
Chester’s military career took the family to El Paso in the early 1960s where Jean raised the family during Chester’s many military tours of duty to include a tour in Viet Nam.
Jean and Chester loved El Paso and were very active in the Community. Jean was a Charter member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority for 53 years and served as the President of the El Paso chapter for four terms, and served as the March of Dimes Coordinator for the Chapter. Jean was also a Charter member of the El Paso Chapter of the Link’s Inc. where she also served as President. Jean was a Life member of the Woman’s Department of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce.
Jean loved helping people and was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church for many years. She served as a member of the North East Gideon’s Auxiliary . She also was a Life Member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of UTEP.
Jean’s community service extended to memberships with the El Paso Branch of the NAACP, the El Paso Museum of Art, the Booker T Washington Alumni Association and as a Charter and Life member of the Buffalo Soldiers El Paso Chapter.
Jean is survived by siblings Gerald Lynch, Richmond California, Ingrid Burkhalter Dallas, Texas, Diane Alvin Alexandria Virginia, Geraldine Renee’ Witherspoon Dallas Texas and Kirby Lynch Deceased.
Jean is also survived by her 3 children. Carmen Jordan Dunphy (Jack Dunphy) New Orleans Louisiana, Joseph C. Jordan Los Angeles California, Markita Jordan Cross (Paul Cross) El Paso Texas, and a host of other relatives.
