Jesus Acevedo, 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Friday, September 24th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents Jose Refugio Acevedo and Maria Lilia Acevedo, as well as grandson Johnny Paz. Jesus “Chuy” is survived by his wife of 35 years Gloria Acevedo; daughters Isabel Acevedo, Yvette Chacon, and Maria Lilia; siblings Oscar Acevedo (Dusty), Lily Rebeles (Tury), Martha Guerra, and Carlos Acevedo. He was deeply loved by his brother-in-law Luis J. Diaz (Silvia), sister-in-law Elsa Chacon (Gary), and brother-in-law Samuel Diaz.
He also had 7 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, and loving man. At the age of 15, Chuy was named Soap Box Derby champion for the State of Texas, competing in Akron, Ohio. He was then named an honorary citizen of Akron, Ohio. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Safe Way, Raytheon, and Asarco for many years and went on to graduate from Park University with honors. He then became a devoted diesel mechanics instructor at Western Technical College, and a coordinator for El Paso Community College’s diesel mechanics program.
Chuy was a gifted artist and had a passion for restoring muscle cars. A visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home East on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 5 to 9 pm. Mass will be held at St Pius X Church on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9 am, with a burial to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 10:30 am.
We will dearly miss him and love him always.
