Our beloved mother Jesusita (Chuy) is now with our Lord, and her grandson Joel, after a long-lived life. Chuy was born in Toyah, Texas and moved to El Paso in the early 1940's She was strong-willed and self-made individual who sold Stanley products; could sell you beach-front property in Arizona; worked behind the counter making delicious grilled cheese sandwiches at Gunning-Castill; and, worked in the St. Pius X Rectory kitchen including the El Paso Diocese kitchen for Bishop Peria. She was a fabulous cook and could whip up a meal at a moment's notice. She could tell and act out a joke like a seasoned comedian. She made several retreats and was an active supporter at St. Pius X and San Juan Catholic churches. It was a pleasure and time well spent taking care of my mom over the years.
The consensus among the grandkids are the fond memories of family gatherings during the holidays, tortillas made from scratch and her ability to always have delicious food ready at any time of the day.
They remember spending time with her making tortillas. She was the best tortilla maker in El Paso! There were countless nights of praying the Our Father and Hail Mary in her bed before they went to sleep. They would make several trips across the border to Juarez to get her hair done and gas up the car. Her unending belief in God and unwavering faith have been instilled throughout the family.
Chuy has joined her five sisters (Dominga Castillo, Maria Villalobos, Petra Villalobos, Eva Talamantez and Cipriana Castillo), and four brothers (Jose, Apolinar, Lorenzo and Alejandro Bitolas) including other family members who have greeted her with great joy and love. She was proceeded in death by her late husband Francisco "Chico" Nieves. Chuy is survived by her two sons Frank Nieves (+Elva Garcia Nieves) and David Nieves (Sylvia Diaz Nieves); and, daughter Irma Delgado (Julian Delgado) including nine grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Pius X, 1150 N. Clark Dr. at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery 4848 Alps Dr. (on Dyer St).
