Joe Washington Roberts, 85, of El Paso, Texas, went to be in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 11, 2025. Born on May 25, 1940, in Artesia, New Mexico. However, Joe always considered himself a proud Texan. He was the beloved son of George Washington and Susie Pearl Roberts.
A graduate of Kermit High School, Joe served with honor in the United States Army for three years. Joe dedicated over 50 years of his life to the trucking industry, working for 7 major companies before starting his own company. He proudly owned and operated West Texas Express for 32 years. His faith was at the core of who he was, and he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX. A man with deep spiritual convictions, Joe’s life was defined by his generosity, gentle spirit, and unwavering compassion. He was known for his love of God, his family, his Country, his farm, his horses, hummingbirds, and bees.
Joe’s legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Farley, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughters, Phyllis (Robert) Monticone of New Caney, TX. and Shanna (George) Strickhausen of Van Horn, TX.
His grandsons: Jonathan (Tavia) McAlister of Hickman, NE., Jacob (Brooke) McAlister of Waco, TX., and Joshua (Sarah) McAlister of SLC, UT.
He is further survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Sharon Roberts of Oregon, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Dawn Simpson, of Van Horn , TX. and Sister-in -law Gail Roberts-Calaway, of Farmington, NM. Joe had a deep love for his many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents and 14 brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX, on August 30, 2025, at 10 AM. A second service will take place at First Baptist Church in Van Horn, TX, on September 1, 2025, at 10 AM.
