John Francis Xavier Bennett

September 4, 1959October 19, 2020

John Francis Xavier Bennett, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 19, 2020. We are heartbroken and appreciate all prayers, love and light while our family grieves. He came from a large family & devoted his life to loving and caring for them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & uncle. John lived his life to the fullest and was kind and generous to a fault. His lust for life and infectious laughter was felt by all who came in contact with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joan & Jules Bennett, and his sister Mary Ann Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, his children Bailey Villarreal (Alejandro), Megan and his granddaughter Alessandra, his siblings Ave Mayfield (James T.), Jules Bennett (Cheryl Diane), and Thad Bennett (Anne) and numerous nieces and nephews. We will be celebrating his life and legacy. Cheers to the one and only John Bennett!

I have known John and his family forever it seems. I was five or six years old when I first met him. I remember John coming to my brother Tommy’s birthday party when we were kids. Even then, he was always the life of the party. I remember going to school with him at Zack White and then Coronado. John had so many great friends. I can still hear his voice saying loud: ‘queso cheese!’

I remember John coming over one time when we unraveled a golf ball, pulling out the long rubber bands inside. We decided to take this long rubber band and tie it to a tree in our front yard and then to the fence of El Paso Country Club across the street. We waited for a car to come by, which one soon did, catching the band on its windshield and stretching until it eventually snapped. We just thought that was so funny, even if sometimes the car would stop and the driver inside would yell at us as we ran away.

And then, of course, we had skunk hunts where all the cars would hide and the group who was ‘it’ would try to find us from their CB in their car or truck. I remember John’s old ’62 Volkswagen Cab Pickup with the flatbed, orange and yellow (can you say crazy colors). I loved that car/truck thing. And I loved John too, so much. I will miss you, my friend. Till we meet again, with all my love to his family and so many friends.

With sadness and disbelief, it has been difficult to quantify the loss of everybody’s friend, John Bennett. Jeanie, Megan, Bailey, Alejandro, and Allisandra, it has been an honor and pleasure to have walked this earth with your husband and Dad. For over 50 years, the joy, adventure and excitement of being John’s friend has certainly been a part of my life I will deeply cherish forever.

John was a great friend and amazing business partner. His tireless energy, steadfast dedication, and depth of knowledge has been a true source of inspiration to all who worked with John. I will miss you John Bennett; Pepe’s will never be the same. We will meet again my fine friend.

I wish you fair skies and following seas my brother from another mother. I will miss you Hooter!

Condolences to the Bennett and Mayfield families,

Danny Grodin and Family

Gone too soon. Cucuy 19 sucks!!!!
The Gormans nailed John to a tee. As did many others. He will be sorely missed.

John lived life Fearlessly, Happily and Generously.
I credit him and a few great friends for teaching me to do so as well.
I wish we all could have bid him farewell! One last John hay Ride!

"Oh, the last goodbyes, the hardest one to say, and this is where the cowboy rides away." This is from another great friends salute to the sunset upon his passing, but appropriate for John as well.

Cucuy 19 is a cruel thief, no farewells, but we gained a Great Guardian Angel to help us in our short time here.
Family was everything to John and everyone was family to John, everyone!

It was a blast to know you John and I will miss you dearly. How about one more shot!
All my love to the Bennett's.

We are honored to have been friends with John for over fifty years. We are thankful for so many memories we have shared with both John and Jeannie including their two beautiful daughters Megan and Bailey. The most recent blessing to their family is Alejandro and granddaughter Alessandra. Ally brightens the world with her smile. Not only did John share his immediate family with our family, he included us with his entire family over the years. We continue to pray for his entire family, friends and siblings Ave, Jules, Thad along with their families.

Let us remember the life that John lived for the last 61 years. His laughter, singing and disguised voice ability was beyond reproach. Farmer John grew the best tomatoes in El Paso and shared them with everyone. If you ever needed a helping hand he was there and had the tools to repair everything. He had the biggest heart and was more generous than anyone you will ever meet. John will truly be missed but we know he is in a better place. God bless us all.
