On October 28, 2020, El Paso, Texas lost a great man to heaven’s Broadcast Hall of Fame. John Douglas ("Dougie") Bowe, who passed away silently and humbly in his El Paso home, is now under the care of Dignity Memorial, with final burial expected at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Edinburg, Hidalgo County, Texas. Doug was the adopted and much loved son of Edward Bowe and Tennessee Alcorn Bowe of Pharr/McAllen Texas.
He is survived by many extended cousins, but especially cared for by Melanie Alcorn Lindberg (CA), her children and now deceased mother Phyllis, Jeannette Alcorn Broadwater (OR), Lucy Alcorn Moody (AK/HI), and his beloved cat, “Rosie”.
Doug Bowe, graduated in 1967 from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School, then went on to acquire a degree in Radio and Television with UTEP, University of Texas, El Paso (formerly Texas Western/TCM College of Mines). For the next 50 years, Doug worked as a highly respected audio engineer, voiceover artist, and production director in the radio broadcasting industry, working out of McAllen (KRIO), and El Paso (KHEY 690 AM, KSET Country, Cat Country 94.7, and Fox 92.3). He exemplified the wonderful and fun “Golden Age of Radio”, as one friend stated. As a well known air personality, Doug frequently appeared in TV car commercials in TX, NM, & AZ and was an avid contributor and host for local KCOS public television fundraisers. Doug loved cats, jazz, books on trivia, children, and enchiladas at Kiki's. In addition to his family, Doug leaves behind many, many friends who have honored him not only for his broadcasting talent, but for his kindness, generosity, wit, humor, exemplary creativity in the studio, sweet demeanor, and ability, willingness, and sheer knack at providing endless and endearing entertainment to both children and adults. Wow! Yup, El Paso will miss "Dougie"! As yet another friend put it, "God bless this wonderful man who brought joy to millions on the radio and off".
