

Jose ”Cruz” passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by the family he loved. Born in Parral, Chihuahua raised in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua and later built a life in El Paso, Texas. He was a hardworking man and dedicated 25 years of service with Safeway Stores and was proud to have also worked at the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Juarez Racetrack (Hipódromo) in the Jockey Club. He attended El Paso Community College to attain a certification in Automotive Mechanics.
A man of assertiveness, humorous nature and undeniable charm. He could be stubborn and stern yet equally filled with a deep love for his family. Jose was the kind of man who believed in his lucky lottery numbers and loved sweet bread with coffee in the mornings. He valued and had great appreciation for his friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his parents José Calderón and Gertrudis Zapata Calderón. He is survived by his four children, Gabriel Calderon, Hidelia Villalobos (Alfredo), Esperanza Guillen and Jesus Armando Calderon, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn (8817 Dyer Street) on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (9025 Diana Drive) at 11:30 a.m. on May 22, 2026, with interment to follow at Restlawn Cemetery (8800 Dyer Street).
Jose’s love for his family and simple nature will be cherished and celebrated by many.
