Jose I Melendez

Jose I Melendez, born January 28, 1929 in Jimenez, Chihuahua went to be with the lord on February 23, 2025, at the age of 96 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Hortencia M. Melendez.

He is also survived and will forever be missed by his children Arturo Morelli, Cecilia Recendez (Jaime), Alma D Trevino (Benito), Miguel Melendez (Patricia), Alfredo Melendez (Yvette). Grandchildren Vanessa, Jackie, Cristian, Rene, Aleena, Annelise, Joseph, Matthew and only great grand child Skyler.

José was a hardworking barber and owned “Joe’s Barbershop”. He also was an amazing father, who took us to school and picked us up every single day. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything.

He was dedicated to working hard and making people laugh. Always witty and quick to respond in a funny way. Loved his Mother and brother dearly even though he lost them when he was very young. But nevertheless he kept charging forward and became an American citizen along with his wife. He always kept his family first and never allowed his family to see his trials and tribulations.

Jose will be greatly missed, but his presence will continue to be felt in the lives of all who loved him. Family and friends will meet for a visitation at Hillcrest Funeral Home East on Wednesday, March 5, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary service at 7:00 PM.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in his memory on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 12:00pm at Guardian Angel Catholic Church. Final resting place will be at Restlawn Cemetery on Dyer with graveside service at 2:00pm.
