

Josefina was a woman of strong Catholic faith, a deep love of gardening, and an endearing circle of friends. She was loved deeply by her family - husband, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren - and will be remembered for the warmth and devotion she brought to all of their lives.
Josefina is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ernesto Leyva; siblings: Luciano Esparza and Inez Montano; sister-in-law, Margarita Sanchez; three sons: Ernest Robert Leyva, Andrew Rene Leyva, and Joe Edward Leyva; daughters-in-law: Araceli Leyva and Dora Leyva; grandchildren: Julian "JR" Leyva, Jacob Leyva, Elena Johnson, Emily Ince, Audrey Leyva, Dean Leyva, Jolie Leyva, Madison Leyva, and Savanah Leyva; and great-grandchildren: Leah, Elias, DeJuan, Lucas, Kaylee, Jaxson, and Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Esparza and Maria Cuestas; stepmother, Esther Esparza; siblings, Manuel Esparza, Rosa Carejo, Francisco Esparza, and Teresa Montano; her granddaughter, Esther Ingersoll; and mother-in-law, Trinidad Leyva.
Visitation will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915, US, on July 14, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Rosary will take place at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915, US, on July 14, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with Eulogies followed right after.
A Funeral Service will take place at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette Ave, El Paso, TX 79907, US, on July 15, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A Committal Service will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906, US, on July 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
