Josie R. Rivas

Josefa (Josie) R. Rivas passed away at the age of 87 on August 1, 2024, in her El Paso home. She was the beloved wife of Jorge L. Rivas Sr., with whom she shared over 70 years of love and companionship.

Born in Fort Quitman, Texas, Josie was the daughter of Ramiro and Marcelina Rodriguez. As the eldest daughter of seven siblings, she set an example of diligence and dedication. She graduated from Bowie High School and later worked as a manager at Weaver Federal Credit Union for 12 years where she then retired from Spur Credit Union. Josie was a devout Catholic and a cherished member of San Francisco Javier Church.

Josie is survived by her husband, Jorge L. Rivas Sr., her two sons, Jorge Rivas Jr. and Adrian Rivas, her daughter, Sandra Miller, and her nine grandchildren. She was loved by many and will be remembered for her unwavering love, patience, and understanding. Words cannot fully express how much her family will miss her, and it was a privilege to have had her in our lives. It was especially a privilege to watch her light up any occasion with her dancing.

A visitation for Josie will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. A rosary will occur Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A funeral mass will occur Friday, August 16, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 519 S Latta St, El Paso, Texas 79905. A graveside service will occur Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906.
