Our beloved parents, Juan and Maria Peña passed away after 56 years of marriage in El Paso, Texas. Maria passed within 9 days of losing her beloved husband. Maria was born in Brownsville, Texas and Juan in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. They met in 1967 on a blind date in Mountain View, Ca. Together they raised 8 children in the town where they met.
Juan retired from the Northern California Cement Masons Union. His talent and creativity live on at various sites in the Bay Area, including a beautiful church fountain in memory of his mother Antonia. Maria poured her love into raising a family. She then embarked on a career with the county of Santa Clara, California, where she retired.
Their love of dancing was admired by many. They were well known in El Paso for tearing up the dance floor at Al Fresco Fridays and at local holiday parties. Maria loved to cook and enjoyed sharing her dishes
with family and friends. We will miss our mom’s heartfelt advice. We will also miss our dads singing accompanied by his harmonica.
Juan and Maria are survived by 7 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by one child.
Private services will be held.
