Juan was a graduate of Cathedral High School and went on to graduate from Texas Western College with a degree in accounting. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Juan worked for Farah Manufacturing for 32 years before retiring to spend time with his family. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, serving in many capacities over the years.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, Raul, and Guadalupe Portillo, and his five brothers, Raul, Jose, Homero, Andres and Carlos. He is survived by his sister Guadalupe Carcerano, his daughter-in-law Annie Saenz and grandchildren, John Ross Saenz, Alexia Saenz, and Kaela Saenz.
Uncle Juan will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews for his capacity to love his family and the many wonderful adventures they had together. Whether it was an Easter egg hunt, concert, birthday party or a quick trip to the candy store, he made those times special for every one of them.
Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home West 128 N Resler from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday January 23, 2024, with a rosary at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 1551 Belvidere. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery 5200 Fred Wilson.
