

Juanita Louise (Swindell) Burdick, 90, resident of El Paso, Texas went home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2015. Juanita was born on May 17, 1924 in Comanche Texas. She was preceded in death by her young son James O Bussard, beloved husband of 54 years Byrl H (Tex) Burdick, parents Oscar Thomas Swindell and Zira Sparks Swindell, siblings Orville Swindell, Nelda Ricker and Geneva Harris, nieces and nephews Wiley Ricker, Sherry Snodgrass, Linda Swindell, Tina Swindell, Timothy Harris and Thomas Harris. She is survived by her step son Byrl H Burdick Jr. (Doris), step grandchildren Byrl H Burdick III (Patsy), Bruce L Burdick (Colleen), step great grandchildren Byrl H Burdick IV (Marilyn), Shannon Burdick Prout (Austin) and Dylan T Burdick, nieces and nephews Valerie Polega (Gary), Terri Moore (Larry), Barbara Frank, Shirley Freigruber (Bert), and Tracy Kingston (Dwayne) and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Juanita was a pilot and was a member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots and an honorary member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association of ham radio operators. She and her husband Tex loved the outdoors; they both were avid hunters and fishermen. In their early years, they loved flying their plane to the cabin they built in Lake City, Colorado and considered it their second home. Together they traveled the world. Juanita will be remembered for her strong independent spirit and loving generosity towards her family. A special thanks to all of the wonderful staff members of the Regency of El Paso and of Hospice of El Paso who provided her with excellent loving care in the last year of her life. The family would also like to thank her neighbors for all their loving support over the years. A graveside service will be held on Saturday March 21, 10:00 A.M. at Evergreen Cemetery, 4301 Alameda Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of El Paso or a charity of your choice.
