Julia S Snelson

Julia Smyra Snelson was born on October 7, 1922. to Walter Clay and Irene (Halk) Burns in Cherry Valley, Arkansas. Julia passed away on Monday , January12, 2015, at the age of 92. In November of 1946 she married Harry H. (Buddy) Snelson, and they made their home in Ysleta, Texas where they raised their four children. Julia worked as an executive secretary for Buick Motor Division of General Motors and helped Buddy in the management of Ysleta Locker Plant, the family business. Buddy passed away in 1977 and Julia returned to school to go into nursing home management. She would go on to manage Sunset Haven Nursing Home in El Paso in addition to nursing homes in both Alpine and Midland, Texas, before her retirement due to health issues in the early 1990’s. She was a 69 year member of Vista Ysleta Methodist Church, past president of the Ysleta Woman’s Club, member of the Woman’s Association El Paso Chamber of Commerce , Ysleta Elementary PTA officer, Cadwallader Elementary PTA, board of directors Sunset Haven Nursing Center, PEO, and the garden club. Julia is lovingly remembered by her children: Dyeanne Koller (Al), Palatine, Il, Charlotte Hawley ( John), El Paso,Tx, Walter G. Snelson II (Renee), Amarillo, Tx, and Susan Rebecca Snelson, Colorado Springs, Co; 8 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren, one sister, Harriet Carwell, Cherry Valley, Ak, numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends and former employees. She was preceded in death by her husband Buddy, parents, sister and brother-in-law Norma and J. T. Stovall, brother and sister-in-law Rev. and Mrs. W. C. Burns, one grandson, and one great grandson. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and fellow residents at Sun Ridge Assisted Living Center on Sunmount Drive, El Paso, Texas, for their 5 years of loving care and devotion. The family will welcome friends at Harding and Orr Del Angel on George Dieter Drive from 5-7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 14, 2015.Graveside services conducted by Rev.
