Julie always held her family first in her heart and loving arms. Her career was her family and helping others. She loved hosting family gatherings, parties, and celebrations. She loved dancing and celebrating life.
Julie was deeply engaged in her church, the Diocese of El Paso, and especially Santa Teresita Mission, San Martin de Porres, and St. Anthony Church. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, President of the El Paso Diocesan Council of Catholic Laity, Director of Cursillo Retreats, and Director of Altar Servers. She was also active in other church functions, including marriage talks, as well as various diocesan activities.
Julie was also active in local politics and was a candidate for the New Mexico State Senate. Additionally, she and her husband, Chuy, owned and operated San Isidro Mission Cafe.
In her spare time, Julie loved reading, painting ceramics, knitting, and Batman. She was a proud member of the El Paso Technical High School Class of 1964 and was honored as the school's 1998 Outstanding Former Student.
Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Cristina Torres; her father, Arturo Herrera; her son, Joel M Cabrales; her sister, Amalia Herrera; and her nieces and nephews, Jesus Angel Herrera and Rosaura Muñoz.
Julie is survived by her husband, Chuy Cabrales; her daughter, Teresa de Jesus Ellison; her sons, Jesus Jay Cabrales, Joe Angel Cabrales, and Joshua Andrew Cabrales; her brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Herrera, Martha Manriquez, Jose Juan Torres, and Juan Jose Torres; her grandchildren, Jesus L. “Louie” Cabrales, Elisa Ellison, Teresita Ellison, Joshua Jr. Cabrales, and Zara Cabrales; and her nieces and nephews, Flora Almadova, Michael Almadova, Cindy Bertoldo, John Cabrales, Jr., David G. Cabrales, Samuel L. Cabrales, Marissa Cabrales, Cecilia Villenueva, Chris Cabrales, Lourdes Cabrales, Laura Linda Cabrales, Violeta Arrieta, Maria Cristina Reyes, Amalia Herrera, Jr., Josefina Stecker, Angel Ever Manriquez, Marisol Rivera, JJ Torres, Orlando Torres, Jacob Torres, Alex Torres, Melinda Ornelas, and Yvette Castillo
