Her children meant the world to her. Maria Teresa (Jaime), Jaime (Irma), and Melissa were the sunshine in her life. Julieta’s favorite role was that of a grandmother. She treasured her time with Gabriel, Adriana, Danny, Frank, Alexis, Devyn, Cassandra, and Jaime Antonio, great grandchildren Frankie, Asael, Gillian, Arya, Jude, Lilly, Gio, Adonis, Aris, and Alora also brought tremendous joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her father Rito Gabaldon, her mother Altagracia Fierro Gabaldon, and her brothers Angel, Chava,Willie, and her grandson Alexis Aaron Morales. She is also survived by her sister Luz Ofelia, whom she loved and took care of growing up. Aunt Alba was a special sister-in-law who was always there for Julieta and was with her in her final moments. She loved her extended family of nephews and nieces. She loved to dance with them and treated them as if they were her own children. Countless stories of her sense of humor will live on in our memories. We are grateful for the visits, calls, celebrations, love, and support everyone has extended to our family.
Julieta was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She would take the time to visit her friends and help them in any way she could. Julieta would never hesitate to help someone in need and would pick up people she didn’t know to share whatever she had to help them.
Julieta then came to El Paso from Juarez and got a job at Kress in downtown. She also worked daily in El Paso in shoe stores and as a seamstress. Julieta also worked for Farah Manufacturing Company as a seamstress, instructor, and supervisor for eight years. Julieta left Farah Manufacturing Company to work at Hortex Manufacturing Company as an instructor and supervisor. After leaving Hortex, she was hired as a temp for Kelly Services in data processing. This resulted in a move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and she went to night school to obtain her GED, learn key punch and later attended the International Business College in El Paso. Once she completed this training, Julieta then worked at the El Paso Natural Gas Company where she worked for twenty-one years rising to the status of supervisor and lead keypunch operator.
Julieta was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, devoting her time and energy to being a Eucharistic Minister. As a Eucharistic Minister, she would take communion to those who could not attend church. Julieta’s faith never wavered and she took her last breath as the family was reciting a rosary in her room.
Julieta helped at the St. Anthony seminary by volunteering at their annual bazaar. All year she would sew aprons and trash bag holders which were then sold to raise money for the seminarians and she would spend the entire weekend at the bazaar.
Everyone who knew her knew how much she loved to dance. She would tire every dance partner out and move on to the next dance partner. She would attend all the Senior Citizen dances and would take dance lessons at the Shundo accompanied by her grandchildren.
Julieta will always be remembered for her cooking and the way she would gather her family and friends every year during Thanksgiving for menudo and delicious homemade pumpkin pies. We’ll always imagine hearing Julieta’s terms of endearment for all those she loved and her favorite sayings to include “Don’t be sorry, be careful”.
We would like to thank Lauro and Sergio who took excellent care of our Mom for five years. She was surrounded by her friends, Lilly and Vickie, at the loving foster home. We are so grateful she spent her days with her caregivers and roommates who became her additional extended family.
We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, daughter, aunt, etc. , and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her and the wonderful stories we will share.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 7th from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home at 1060 N. Carolina Drive, 79915.
