Kathryn G. “Katy” Crawford died Sunday November 16th at a local hospital at the age of 89, surrounded by family and those who loved her the most. She was born in Mansfield, Missouri to Blanche and Edmund Gaines. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis 'Sam' Crawford and baby son Thomas Benton Crawford.
She is survived by her daughters Frances Crawford and Lisa Kelly of California and her grandsons Neil Kelly and Brian Kelly also of California.
Katy taught history at Andress High school for 20 years. Even when hospitalized she was pleased to be of help to the nursing students of El Paso Community College.
Katy was a devoted Dallas Cowboy's fan and never missed a game on TV. She was proud of her DVD collection and could watch Hogan's Heroes innumerable times. She loved all animals (Winston, Percy and Gracie), Louis Armstrong and big band music.
Katy researched her own genealogy before the internet made it easy. She was extremely proud of her heritage and membership in DAR (Stoddert Del Norte Chapter), Cabell Foundation, Magna Charta Society, Huguenot Society and National Society of Colonial Dames among others.
Her last few years at home were made possible by her caregivers of Comfort Keepers. Her loving caregivers at the end were Martha, Felipa, Gladia, Celia and Julieta. We cannot thank them enough for their excellent care and devotion.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 20th from 10am to 12noon at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr. Chapel Service to follow at 12noon. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, Wounded Warriors Project.
