March 13, 1932 - April 11, 2024
Kathryn was known for her service to her community. She served her faith enthusiastically and was a talented artist who loved teaching. Not to mention the love she received when opening up her home for entertaining. Kathryn was a Homefront Pioneering Teacher for the Baha’i faith throughout Texas, St. Louis, and New Mexico.
Kathryn was born on the Southern border of TX, in McAllen to Robert Lester and Ruby Aaron. After High School she attended a brief nursing course and became a Surgical Nurse. Continuing in that field throughout college. She earned a BA in Biology from SMU. Then her Master's in Literature from TCU. Somewhere in between degrees she found love, got married, and had three children. Christopher, Gregory, and Catherine. The kids literally grew up in a zoo because their father was the Fort Worth Zoo Director.
Fort Worth is where Kathryn started her teaching career. First with the school for boys choir casually making her way to an Associate Professor of English Literature At UTA. She even had the pleasure of having her son Gregory in one of her classes at St. Louis Florescent Valley College.
St Louis is where she met Henry, and the Baha’i faith gained a new member. They contemplated moving to Mexico, but the faith brought them to Anthony, Texas where they opened the Baha’i Information Center. There they hosted many beautiful dinners, not only for Bahai’s, but also for the community. She served on the Anthony Chamber of Commerce and also spent many hours volunteering teaching Reiki at the Women’s Intercultural Center, to name a few accomplishments under her tiny belt. She was a petite woman with such a big spiritual presence.
Kathryn was introduced to the Baha’i faith when her children were young. She saw a group of interracial kids going into a friend's house, and when she heard their teachings on Unity and Universal Peace, that was it! That was what was missing in the world, and she wanted to be a part of it. Helping integrate a skating rink in the 60’s, Kathryn was a true testament of what it is to be a Baha’i, loving, caring, accepting, non-judgmental, humble, and fierce in her beliefs. She will be greatly missed.
Kathryn is survived by her brother Robert Aaron and his wife Debbie of Fort Worth, Texas. Their sons are Craig Aaron and his wife Sam, Kyle Aaron and his wife Katie. She is also survived by three beloved children: Christopher Curtis of Oklahoma City, Gregory Curtis and his wife Anita of Raleigh, NC. And daughter Cathy Curtis of Bonita Springs, FL. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Marilyn, Tamara, Aracely, Jill, and Aaron Beau Curtis. She also has 7 great grandchildren Kiara, Athen, G’yordan, Isabella, Quinntin, BJ, and Tristen, and now one great-great grandson Kelcey.
