Oh Dad, where do I even start?

             What I’ll always remember most are our car ride talks. From scolding me back in T-ball because I was dipping my shoulder and popping the ball up—just because I always wanted to hit the long ball—to those rides home after high school games, where you got on me for leaving runners on base or making an error in the infield.
             When I was in the Army, and overseas, you always answered my Skype calls when I was homesick. You even moved down to El Paso to be closer to me, Vanessa, and the family. You nearly won all of our Sunday football picks—though you were always switching your teams like the ultimate bandwagoner.
               You were there when Princess Kylie was born. I still remember the nurse telling us you were about to pass out from running up the stairs, just to make it in time. Thank you for always being there. 
               Thank you for telling me you were proud of me. Thank you for owning your mistakes and teaching me through them.
Till we meet again, Dad, I’ll keep cheering for the Indians (Guardians), our team. You always said you wanted to see them win a World Series before you passed—sorry you didn’t get that dream. I’ll carry it for you now, Dad. Rest easy. I got this.

I’ll keep your memories of making the best milkshakes, dips in the pool at night, playing board games, helping me with my math homework, cooking baloney and potatoes, teaching me how to play softball, riding to the cow store,  watching our teams lose, and all the jokes. Your humor will live on in your kids and granddaughter. I know you’re happy reunited with grandma. When the restaurant only has Pepsi products, I won’t order it, but I’ll be thinking of you. Love your princess.
