Kenneth Roosevelt Franklin, a cherished father, beloved friend, and devoted Air Force veteran, passed away on September 2, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of humor, empathy, service, and above all, a celebration of love. He was 56 years old.
Kenneth, affectionately known to everyone as Ken, was born on July 24, 1967, in El Paso, Texas. However, his heart held a special place for Boise, Idaho, which he also called home. He lived a life filled with adventure, camaraderie, and a quick-witted sense of humor. Not only did he proudly serve his country for 12 years in the United States Air Force, with a notable deployment during the Gulf War, but he also excelled as the industrious General Manager at Famous Dave's. Ken was a devoted caretaker to his recently departed mother, Pinkie Mae Franklin, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to family.
Ken's sense of humor was legendary, and those fortunate enough to know him best would describe him as a selfless and caring "smarty pants" with a sharp tongue and a quick retort for any occasion. Ken possessed a unique talent for making people laugh, even in the most trying of times. His humor and compassionate nature provided comfort and joy not only to his family and friends but also to those who had just crossed his path. He was always ready to offer the best advice, willing to give the shirt off his back for loved ones, and never hesitant to express his honest opinions—a set of values instilled in him by his mother at a young age.
Ken is survived by his three beloved children, two precious grandchildren, and devoted sisters, all of whom he loved dearly and of whom he was immensely proud. His youngest son, Kenneth Rosevelt Riley Franklin “Riley”, was a constant source of boundless joy and pride for Ken. His significantly treasured daughters, Tiana Marie Franklin (the middle child) along with her children Levi Bennion (grandchild) and Horizan “Sonny” River Reign Evergreen (grandchild) and Devian Alysabeth McDowell (the eldest), shared a deepening connection with their father and prized moments spent together. Ken also leaves behind his cherished and protective older sisters, Peggy McRae (John Sr.) and Ernestine Franklin, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
In addition to his immediate family, Ken leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, beloved relatives, friends, and colleagues who will remember him for his unwavering dedication, unflinching bravery, and his ability to spread infectious laughter.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm-9:00pm, with Prayer Service at 7:00pm, at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas. A Farewell service to honor the life of Kenneth Roosevelt Franklin will be held at 9:30am Friday, September 15, 2023 at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn, followed by graveside service at 10:30am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
His memory will endure in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him, and his legacy of service, empathy, and laughter will continue to inspire generations to come.
