Kevin Lamar Hill (nickname KB) was born in Fort Gordon, GA on August 20, 1957 to the late SFC (Ret.) Joshua Hill, Sr and Johnnie Mae (Moore) Hill. He had five brothers and one sister. LTC (Ret.) Joseph (Greg) Hill (Pat), Spencer Hill (Angela), Mark Hill (Jackie) and Cynthia (Hill) Matthews (Emerson) survives him. Marion Hill and Joshua Hill, Jr. preceded him in death. He also has many nieces and nephews of which he was very close and proud.
He spent most of his youth attending various schools in Ft. Dix, New Jersey, Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Riley, Kansas and El Paso, Texas, Frankfort American High School in Germany supporting his Father’s Military Career.
Kevin graduated High School and was granted a full Basketball scholarship to play for the legendary coaches Don Haskins and Tim Floyd at the University of Texas at El Paso. As a member of the team, he provided great leadership and demonstrated a true commitment to his coaches, teammates and the university. One of his many accomplishments was to be part of the team for the Dallas Cowboys. His dedication to sports prepared him for life’s many challenges.
After graduation from college, Kevin worked in the banking community as an advisor and financial manager. He moved on to teaching and dedicated 23 years of service as a language arts instructor with several schools in the El Paso area. He also received a Master’s in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso with a K-12 Principal Certificate. His students were always a big part of his life and they were as important to him as he was to them. He retired from teaching and lived until his passing in El Paso.
His memories will be cherished by his family, friends and the El Paso and Killeen community of which he was a big part for many years. He had a great love for music (singing with Tangent – “Reach Out” from El Paso) and his students. He was generous to a fault and willing to help all of his family and friends. Often giving to others while sacrificing personal needs for those he loved and respected.
The Hill family will have a small celebration of life service to be held on August 3, 2024 in the home of Mark and Jackie Hill in Killeen, Texas. In addition, a celebration of life service will be held in El Paso, Texas at the Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, Texas, July 27, 2024 from 1100-1400.
