Khang was born on 28 November 1966, in Saigon, Vietnam. He escaped Vietnam in 1979, beginning a 9 month journey to the United States that would drift across oceans and land upon the refugee islands of Indonesia. Upon reaching Boston, Massachusetts, Khang would enroll in Acton High School, learning English along the way. Following high school, in 1984, Khang began his undergraduate studies at Brandeis University, graduating as part of the class of ‘88 with degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry. In 1993, he earned a medical degree from New York Medical College, subsequently pursuing a plastic surgery residency program at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. During his time in Cincinnati, he met his wife Rena, marrying in 1997. They have two children, Ethan and Cameron. Khang worked as a plastic reconstructive surgeon at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, and served for 9 years as an officer in the Navy Reserves with the rank of Captain, fulfilling his dreams to help others and serve the country that embraced him.
Khang spent his time being involved in every part of his children’s lives, walking and hiking with his wife and dogs, and enjoying his hobbies. He led with happiness and passion in every aspect of life. He is deeply missed, and is loved as he loved: always.
He is predeceased by his brother, Nguyen Thai. He is survived by his parents, An Thai and Gam Nguyen, his sister, Kim Thai, his wife, Rena Thai, and his children, Ethan and Cameron Thai.
