

La Rue Genevieve Jensen Wilson, 98, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on June 1, 2021 in El Paso, Texas. La Rue was born October 19, 1922 in Houston, Texas to father Clifford Roe Jensen and mother Lula Irene Pitts. Her husband of 56 years, Homer Allen Wilson, preceded her in death as did a daughter, Deborah Hyde. She is survived by four children, sons Craig Wilson and wife Erika of Newark, DE, Scott Wilson of Grand Junction, CO and daughters Suzanne McGregor of Crestone, CO and Cheryl Wilson of El Paso. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Andrew and Genevieve McGregor, Joshua and Hannah Wilson, and Felicity Condon and great-grandchildren Max and Sean McGregor, Ryan Fetherston, and Alex and Lynn Condon.
La Rue, known affectionately as Shine as a young woman, had a vivacious and fun-loving personality and very much enjoyed the company of friends and family. She enjoyed social activities and was an active bowler into her 80s and enjoyed Wii bowling with friends at Royal Estates, her home for the last fifteen years of her life. Other activities she enjoyed included traveling, sewing and needlework, cooking, and working with stained glass. She was a long-time member of her bridge club, was active in Asbury Methodist Church, and enjoyed singing as a member of the Sweet Adelines. She volunteered at several organizations, including Providence Hospital, the Lighthouse for the Blind, Asbury Church, Royal Estates, and contributed over 7,000 hours of her time to Sierra Medical Center.
At La Rue’s request, no funeral service will be conducted, so in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of La Rue may be sent to either Candlelighters or The Lighthouse for the Blind.
