Obituary of Larry L. McDonald
IN THE CARE OF

Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest West

Larry Leroy McDonald died peacefully on July 13, 2020, in El Paso, Texas at the age of 77.

Larry was born in Belden, NE to Dorothy and Elmer McDonald. He was the youngest of nine children. He graduated in from Belden High School in 1960, and immediately enlisted in the Army. His mom and dad had to sign him up as he was only 17 at the time.

He served two tours in Vietnam from 1964-1965 and 1968-1969, where he was wounded twice and was awarded the Purple Heart. After 21 years of service, he retired in October of 1981, and settled in El Paso, Texas, working in Civil Service at Fort Bliss. Following his retirement from Civil Service, he worked for Raytheon. He finally fully retired on December 31, 2016. He was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion. Larry was very proud of his military service and was a true patriot. He loved his country! He enjoyed listening to "real" country music, drinking Coors Light, and talking about his family. In his own words: "I have been and always will be very proud of being in the McDonald Family."

Larry is survived by wife of 20 years, Irene; his daughters Teresa (Evan) Lee, Regina (Jeff) Rothschadl, and grandson, Trey Rothschadl, Step-daughter Jessica Coates Herrera (Beto), and granddaughters Janay and Brooklyn, and step-son Shannon (Heather) Hall, and granddaughters Alyssa, Shannon, and grandson Gavyn; sister-in-laws Margaret McDonald and LaVonne McDonald, great granddaughter Aubrey Lynn, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Elmer and Dorthea McDonald, 8 siblings: Hazel (Clayton) Halleen, Harold (Juanita) McDonald, Margaret (Kenneth) Brummels, Merrill McDonald, Norma (Darrell) Johnson, Harvey McDonald, Shirley McDonald and Kenneth McDonald.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Barlett and LTAC for being there for him these last few months when we could not be.
