Lawana Faye Brock was born on September 25, 1931 in Roosevelt, Oklahoma to Herbert W. Brock and Jewell Agnew Brock. She was the third child in the family and had three brothers. Lawana lived in Oklahoma and New Mexico during childhood and moved to Lubbock, Texas as a teenager, where she played on a state championship volleyball team. After high school, Lawana graduated from Draughon’s Business College in Lubbock. Lawana married Airman Morris K. George in 1952, and they had a son and a daughter. She was widowed at age 25 when Morris was tragically killed in a military plane crash. After moving back to Lubbock, Texas with her young children, Lawana worked for the Veterans Administration. She met Roy Gallop there in Lubbock, and they were married on August 20, 1960. He became Daddy to her two children, and then two more daughters were born. The family eventually moved to Aurora, Colorado where Lawana and Roy lived for 44 years before moving to El Paso, Texas.
Roy and Lawana were married for 61 years, until Roy’s death.
Lawana was an adventurous person who especially enjoyed travel – exploring Europe, Uganda, Israel, and Egypt during her seventies. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, making blankets and beautiful clothes for herself and her three daughters, and later for her granddaughters.
Lawana is lovingly remembered by her children: son Karem George (wife Libby), daughter LaDeena George Spoon (husband Toby), daughter Glena Gallop Lathrop (husband Tom), and daughter Diane Gallop Fiske (husband Ed). She was also loved by
10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
