He and his wife, Maria Cruz Borrayo Rey, were married for 58 years. Leo was born on December 3, 1945, in El Paso, Texas. He was the only son of Leopoldo Rey and Margarita Lopez Rey.
After attending Austin High School, he joined the United States Navy in November 1963 same year President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
He was in Boot Camp in San Diego, California. Leo honorably served his country for three years during the Vietnam war. During his time in the service, Leo was aboard the USS Fred T Berry, DD858 and was decorated with the Vietnam Service medal and the National Service Defense medal. He additionally received a letter of recommendation for his service aboard the USS Fred T Berry. He was privileged to cross the equator twice, once on a Mediterranean cruise in 1964 and the other during a stopover in Vietnam in 1966. Upon his honorable discharge, he obtained the rank of Gunner’s Mate Guns 3rd class. Leo is a member of the American Legion Post 58 in El Paso, Texas.
A year after discharge (1967) he married Maria and they had three children Leo, Mary Ann, Raquel. Leo worked for the United States Postal Service in Los Angeles California. He started unloading trucks and worked his way to mule driver, forklift driver, elevator operator, and later male dispatcher for the box section. Leo worked there for 38 years. He retired from the Postal Service in which time Maria wanted to retire also. They sold the home they lived in for 35 years in La Puente, California and moved to Sun City West Arizona.
Leo is survived by his wife Maria, his kids Leo, his wife Lynn, Raquel, MaryAnn, her husband Angel. His eight grandchildren Stephanie, Michael, Brandon, Jacqueline, Nicholas, Sophia and twins Dominic and Ethan. Also, three great grandchildren Ezra Olario, Liam Gardella and Mia Diaz.
Leo kindly asks no flowers please. Instead, if you would like to consider a memorial contribution in Leo’s memory to the American Legion post 85 in El Paso, Texas.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Rd, El Paso, Texas 79924, on August 19, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
A Commital Service will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906, on August 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm, and a Committal Service will also take place at Funeraria del Angel Restlawn Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer, El Paso, TX 79904, US, on August 19, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
