Lilia “Lily” Rios, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, passed away on May 23, 2026, surrounded by her devoted children. Born on October 11, 1934, in El Paso, Texas, she lived 91 remarkable years filled with unwavering love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosendo and Carolina Rivera; her husband, Jose T. Rios; her sisters, Yolanda Rivera and Xochitl Diaz; her sister‑in‑law, Maria G. Rios; and her granddaughter, Salina Rios. She is survived by her brother, Robert Rivera (Josie), brother-in-law Manuel C. Rios Jr. (Cecilia) and Luis Diaz, and her sister‑in‑law and dear friend, Mague Rios.
Lily shared her warm smile and friendly spirit with every customer during her 20 years at Food City Supermarket. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, reading the newspaper each morning, and faithfully ending each night in prayer for her family.
She poured her heart into her cooking, filling her home with joy, laughter, and tradition. In her kitchen, she carried the wisdom of generations—guided not only by recipes, but also by the familiar superstitions she trusted and lovingly passed down. Every dish she made was an expression of love.
Shopping, for her, was never just a pastime—it was a talent. She had a remarkable gift for finding the perfect present, always chosen with care, along with an unmatched ability to find the best deal, stretching her generosity even further. She gave wholeheartedly, always thinking first of others and making everyone feel cared for.
Grandma Lily was deeply adored by her eight grandchildren: Jacob, Erica, Aaron, Cynthia, Danielle, Salina (†), Joshua, and Mark Jr. She never missed an opportunity to serenade each of them on their birthday with her special rendition of the birthday song, always ending with, “And many more, I love you too, and may God bless you.” Her farewell kisses and blessings before every departure will be remembered forever.
Her home was filled with cherished photographs of family milestones and all eleven great‑grandchildren—Tatum, Tosh, Liana, Mia, Tenley, Mateo, Tessa, Ava, Diego, Mireya, and Leo—each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Lily was small in stature but stood tall with pride for the hijos de su vida. She is honored and remembered by her five children and their spouses:
Joe D. Rios (Alma), Edward X. Rios (Terry), Lily P. Lara (Luis), Sylvia A. Quintana (Tony), and Mark A. Rios (Veronica).
The Rios family extends heartfelt gratitude to her compassionate and gentle caregiver, Lily, and to the team at Faith Hospice—Judy, Valerie, and Jesus—for the kindness and support they showed throughout her final days.
