

Lorenzo “Cony” R. Loya, Jr., of Socorro, Texas passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the age of 86. Lorenzo was born on October 18, 1936, in San Elizario, Texas to Lorenzo Loya, Sr. and Emma Ruiz. Lorenzo grew up in San Elizario, and attended Ysleta High School where he first met his beautiful wife, Maria Lujan. Lorenzo joined the United States Army where he became an M1 Rifle Team Expert and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service in the Army, he was stationed in Washington, D.C. and was commissioned to secure the airspace around the U.S. Capitol and the White House during the Korean War. After completing his military service in the Army, Lorenzo enjoyed a long career in civil service at Fort Bliss, Texas, working as a draftsman, supervising illustrator, and finally as senior visual information specialist.
He married Maria Lujan on May 4th, 1958, and together they celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together they had 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was always a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. To all those who knew him or were lucky to have met him, he was always described as a warm, kind-hearted person who always made them feel welcome and special.
Lorenzo enjoyed various hobbies including camping, fishing, hunting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing work, watching Dallas Cowboys football, cooking, grilling, as well as making his famous candy confections and cakes. He was also a proud member of the Korean War Veterans Association. Above all, Lorenzo cherished giving his time, talent, and love to his family.
He was preceded in death by his son Orlando Loya, Sr., parents Lorenzo and Emma Loya, and sisters Irma Holguin and Fabiola Cardenas. He is survived by his wife, Maria L. Loya; his daughters Patricia Alvillar (Javier), Rosanna Loya, Amanda Loya (Mario Gonzalez), and Erica Loya; daughter-in-law Yvette Loya; 12 grandchildren (Claudia, Illissa, Clarissa, Vanessa, Angelica, Viviana, Luis, Gabriel, Orlando Jr., Victoria, Jessica, Marc); 16 great-grandchildren (Madisyn, Charlotte, Kingston, Jazlinn, Savannah, Joshua, Alexandra, Isaiah, Julianna, Elijah, Noah, Alexis, Aidan, Liam, Caila, Mason); brother Arnaldo Loya (Terri) and sister Noelia Saucedo.
Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home East on Tuesday, October 24th from 5:00-8:00 pm with the Vigil/Rosary to be held at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 25th at 1:00 pm. The Committal will immediately follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
