Born in Munich, Germany, Lydia survived the war years in Germany. After WW II she was employed as a translator for the Allied Civil Court System, raced motorcycles with her father, and met and married U.S. serviceman Luis Rodriguez, with whom she came to El Paso as a “war bride.” She was a resident of El Paso for 67 years.
She worked at KELP Radio Station and later at White Sands Missile Range as a Supply Technician, first at the Nuclear Effects Laboratory, then Consolidated Supply, and finally at the Environmental Effects Laboratory, from which she retired in 1993.
During this time, by example, she was a pioneer in the Women’s Equal Rights Movement, was well-traveled and fearless when faced with the unknown. She raised her children to view the World as their home and Life as a Great Adventure.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, and during her younger years loved to dance. She also loved her kitty cats.
She is survived by her daughter Sylvia Rivas and husband Robert, her son Lorenzo, and daughters-in-law Susan and Dorothy, three grandchildren, Lorenzo Jr. and his wife Wendy, Jennifer Shafer and her husband Robert, and Alexander, and one great-granddaughter, Mia.
She will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service and Rosary will be held Saturday, November 7 at 4:00 P.M. at the Martin Funeral Home, 128 North Resler Drive, El Paso, TX 79912.
