Mabel Rivera Ruiz

Mabel was born on May 5, 1958, in Aguada, Puerto Rico, to Elena Crespo and Maitel Rivera. She spent the early years of her life in Puerto Rico and New Jersey where she grew up with her four sisters. Mabel later moved to El Paso, Texas, with her then husband, Freddy Ruiz where she created a home for her family and raised her four beloved children. In 1997 she earned her degree and established herself in the field of Dental Hygiene.

As a dental hygienist, Mabel cared for many El Pasoans and brightened the smiles of every patient that came to her. Mabel enjoyed the moments that she spent with her patients. She always said that she had the best patients and they brought much joy to her life. Of all the smiles she brought forth, the ones of her children are the brightest. Mabel often said that being a mother was the greatest joy of her life. She was the best mother and her children never doubt the love that she has for them. Mabel’s passion, caring, love, and strength will live on through her children and all that have known her.

In life, Mabel loved to listen to classic rock and heavy metal, she loved to dance, and read, and really enjoyed a good ‘B’ movie. She enjoyed gardening, silly jokes, and had a great sense of humor. Mabel loved to cook and taught all her children how to cook and make classic Puerto Rican dishes. Most of all she loved her children and her loving pets. Mabel always had a strong will and determination, which defined her life, and carried her through her studies and in raising her children on her own.

Mabel is survived by her four children; Elena Ruiz, Adela Ruiz, Crisanta Ruiz, and Freddy Ruiz Jr.; her faithful Pomeranian-Pug, Kevin; and her three sisters, Mary, Madeline, and Blanche. All of whom shall fondly, and forever, remember her as a beloved mother, sister, and a cherished part of their lives.
