Manuel Ignacio “Al” Alvarado, Jr. was born on July 7, 1963 and passed on March 10, 2022. He was affectionally known by many of his family members as Nachito. Al, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, resided in Clint, Texas, for most of his life and was known for his steadfast faith in God, strong work ethic, kindness, contagious smile and warm heart.
He is preceded in death by his dear mother and father, Cecilia T. Alvarado and Manuel Ignacio Alvarado, Sr. and is survived by his only brother, Jaime; niece, Taylor Rene; his sister-in-law, Lupe; and her children, Charles Robert, John F. Kennedy and Victoria Park Schulte. A host of other family members and friends also survive him.
It has been said: “There’s no other love like the love for a brother. There’s no other love like the love from a brother.” Jaime and Al had an incredibly special bond, forged together by the fact that it was just the two of them. When Al was challenged by health issues later in life, Jaime lovingly cared for him until he passed into the arms of our Lord.
Al was a devoted member of his church, professing his unwavering faith at mass every Sunday and praying the rosary at each opportunity. He cherished his time in the presence of God and lived his life according to the teachings of scripture, as evidenced by his sincere love for others and kind, selfless acts.
Working most of his life in the food industry, he gained distinction for being a diligent and loyal employee and for his prompt and perfect attendance. During his leisure, Al spent countless hours gardening, cooking, visiting with family and friends and watching sports.
To the dismay of Cowboys’ fans, he rooted for the Denver Broncos. And when basketball season rolled around, he was a staunch LA Lakers’ fan. If he were not in front of the television watching a game, one could often find him in his vegetable garden gathering ingredients for his next special dish. Al loved to cook, especially his mom’s fried chicken, never divulging her secret recipe to anyone.
Al had a special place in his heart for the younger generation of the family. Taylor, his only niece, was his pride and joy. He was always happy to learn of her academic and career achievements. Bobby, Kennedy and Victoria often received calls from him to express his love and pride in their accomplishments.
He treasured the holidays and spending precious time with family. And gift giving was not limited to Christmas. Al would frequently surprise new friends or caretakers, including Ana, Cindy, Mayra and Johnathan, with a present. Even during his most difficult days, he would smile, tell a joke or two, laugh and bestow a gift upon an often surprised, but grateful, recipient. That was Al.
He was indeed a remarkable person, possessing a pure heart, a joyful disposition and unselfish nature. He made the world a little brighter, a little happier, and a little better for us all. When Al met his Father in heaven, he was surely greeted with these words: “Well done, you good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:21
