During her 102 years of life, Marcela Provencio, one of six children born to Patricio and Leonarda Provencio, put family first. In her late 60s, Marcela, seeing a need to care for her only son Francisco’s growing family, left her job and selflessly took on the role of stay-at-home grandmother. Marcela helped Francisco and his first wife Estela raise their seven children and took great joy in teaching them the importance of faith and caring for others. Marcela delighted in expressing her love through food, often cooking her family’s favorites (enchiladas, chile rellenos and frijoles) until the day she could no longer be self-sufficient. In the twilight of Marcela’ final years, her family was privileged to return the blessing of selflessness and unconditional love she lived out each day. Along their beautiful journey of caregiving, her family was continually amazed by Marcela’s strength, sense of humor and steadfast faith in God. On Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, Marcela, beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, was called home and welcomed by our Lord and Savior. She is survived by her brother Patricio Provencio (Elena), her son Francisco J. Provencio (Bertha, stepchildren Uswaldo, Ezequiel, Bertha, Elizabeth and families), and 7 grandchildren: Francisco J. Provencio Jr. (Valeria, step-grandchildren James Dean, Heaven and Vivian), Gabriela Provencio Reyes (Richard, great-grandkids Diego & Christian), Claudia Provencio Heising (Brett), Gerardo Provencio (Leonor), Bernadette Leung (Sunny, great-grandkids Caleb, Aaron & Ava), Joey Provencio, and Theresa Provencio Seelig (William). Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, from 4-9 p.m. at Crestview Funeral Home with rosary vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at San Antonio Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery.
