Maria Ramona Acuna

María Ramona Acuña, age 66, of El Paso, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022. María was born on July 25, 1955. Her loving family includes her husband, Arturo Acuña, daughter Alexine García, son-in-law Joel García, grandchildren Joel Moses and Solomon Mateo García, sisters Martha Arrieta and husband José Arrieta and Mary Guillén, and niece Susan Arrieta and her husband Marc Carreón. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Anna Acuña. Growing up, Maria held education in high esteem. She eagerly encouraged all her friends to take and complete college courses. María was the first of her family to graduate from college with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from UTEP. She started a career in teaching and found her calling. She spent over 30 years teaching bilingual preschool and kindergarten students. She made such a lasting impression on those children’s lives that several of her students enrolled their own children in her class years later. She was a passionate educator and loved to teach children to read and write. She was an inspiration to many students that went on to success due to her dedication inside and outside the classroom. María loved to keep busy and make the most of her time which led to her passion for painting, knitting, and crocheting. Her love for art and desire to help others led her to donate many handmade goods to various local charities with her crochet club, The Yarn Crew. She enjoyed many friendships and was a loving and caring person. She loved her family dearly and actively gave of herself until the very end. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday January 25, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm with a Vigil at 6pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home East. 1060 N. Carolina Dr.
