Maria P. Flores, daughter of Alejandro Reyes Flores and Librado Alonso Meras, passed away on January 27th, 2026. Known as Chata or Chatita to her family, she was born in a pueblito, Lerdo, Mexico, married Juan Flores, and had two children, Jose (Freddy) Flores and Mayra Flores. She lived in several places across the US before settling in Melrose Park, Illinois, later moving to Phoenix, AZ, and eventually spending her final days in El Paso, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband and her grandson, Anthony.
She is survived by her sister Luisa; her brothers Alejandro (Cano) and Bernadino, along with their respective spouses Gloria and Chela; and her sister Juanita; Chata’s children, Jose (Freddy), with his wife Martha, and Mayra, with her husband Jose Alberto. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Andrew (with wife Maricruz), DeMarco (with wife Jessica), Jon (with wife Jasmine), Alberto, Aleyana, and Alexander. Additionally, she is remembered by her great-grandchildren Dani, Noe, Ronnie, Danika, Madison, Mia, Demetri, Allison, Noah, Andres, Jiya, Daniel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Anyone who met Chatita would remember her vibrant sense of humor, her zest for life, and her affection for a simple cafecito con pan. She brought laughter into every space she entered and made each moment joyful. Playfully silly, delightfully witty, and always true to herself, Chatita showed us not to take life too seriously—because she never did.
Though she’s gone from our sight, her laughter still echoes in our hearts. Forever loved. Forever smiling. Forever missed.
