It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, Maria Luisa Lucero Garcia, age 92. She passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born on Oct 2, 1933 in Smeltertown, Texas to Nazaria and Guadalupe Lucero, she was a beacon of strength and devotion to her family throughout her 92 years of life. Many called her Maria, Mary, Luisa and Licha!
She retired the first time after 32 years, from Sun Towers Hospital as a Critical Care Tech Monitor. Being the hard worker that she was, she proceeded to work for the El Paso Independent School District as a Bus Monitor for Handicapped children, where she worked for 26 years and retired on June 1, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roque M. Garcia, her daughter Yvonne Garcia Monarez and her eight sisters: Luz, Carmen, Ernestina, Maria, Rayo, Gloria, Socorro, and Ignacia.She is survived by her children, daughter, Yolanda Martinez (Enrique), son, Pedro Garcia; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many dear nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Mica Martinez, Katy Rimel & Gigi Andrade; and of course so many people who were like her own family.
Services are as follows:
Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 North Resler Drive, El Paso, TX 79912, US, on March 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Rosary will take place at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N Resler Dr, El Paso, Texas 79912, on March 9, 2026, at 6:00 pm.
A Mass will be held at Santa Teresita Mission, 3401 Zapal Ave., El Paso, Texas 79922, on March 10, 2026, at 10:00 am.
Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas 79915, on March 10, 2026, at 11:30 am.
