Maria Refugio Lopez

May 6, 1933May 16, 2020

Maria del Refugio (Cuca) Lopez, 87, of El Paso,Texas - entered into eternal life on May 16, 2020, with her children by her side, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born to the late Sabino and Elisa Hernandez on May 6, 1933 in El Paso, TX. She married the late Heliodoro (Yoyo) Lopez on May 26, 1954 and they lived together in El Paso the rest of their lives.

Cuca is survived by her five Children: Irene Perreault (Tim), of El Paso; Richard Lopez (Gloria), of El Paso; Rudy Lopez (Kim), of Pensacola, FL; Ronnie Lopez (Gloria), of El Paso; Esther Gomez (Fernie), of Killeen, TX. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and her siblings; Manuel Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, Carmen Gomez, Dolores Hernandez, Johnny Hernandez and Ruben Hernandez. Cuca was predeceased by her loving husband, Yoyo, in 2003. Also preceding her death are her brothers: Rosendo Hernandez, Ramon (Monchi) Hernandez and Carlos Hernandez.

Cuca was a sweet and humble woman who loved to crochet, sew and cook for others. She was a deeply spiritual woman that was devoted to the church and her Virgencita de Guadalupe. She was committed to her family and friends. She loved everyone and left a lasting impression on all those she encountered. All were welcome in her home and greeted with a big hug and a smile. She made friends everywhere she went. Her only flaw was carrying the burdens of the world on her shoulders.

Her grandchildren will remember her as adventurous and fun loving, teaching them to stand on their heads, do cart wheels or slide down the dunes of White Sands and tumbling in the sand.

She and her children were blessed with a loving extended family that helped care for her after she suffered her stroke in 2010.

Cuca will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. The legacy she leaves behind will stay deep in the hearts of those that got to know and love her.

Special thanks to Father Mariano Lopez for rushing to her bedside to pray and anoint her, the medical professionals that have cared for her, her home caretakers and especially Mariluz who helped take care of her for the last couple months during these difficult times.

Due to the current circumstances that surround the world, there will be no immediate services. When the family feels that we can all safely meet to celebrate her life, a memorial and burial will be scheduled and shared.

We have so many fond memories of the times we spent with your family as we were growing up. Your dad was the prankster who always made times fun and your mom was always the sweetest and kindest hostess. And their love for each other was beautiful. I remember your mom would call him "mi honey." I'm sure their reunion in the loving arms of Our Father was so incredible. "I can only imagine." May your memories give you strength as you adjust to your new normal. Love from the Macias family.

I remember her at Mass, at St. Pius, always had a beautiful, friendly and truly caring welcoming greeting whenever I saw her. She will be missed. May she Rest In Peace, and may our Heavenly Father surround all her family with His Love and Peace at this so difficult time.
God be with you all.

I will have the best memories of my Tia Cuca’s kindness, unconditional love and welcoming home to me and my family. She was able to meet my sons while visiting Our home in Louisiana. Tia Cuca would remain in contact with us whether by phone, or a greeting card. Dezcanse en Paz Tia Cuca.
