It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Martinez-Cortez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Maria, 63 years of age, left this world on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Born on December 10, 1959, Maria was the daughter of the late Avelardo Martinez and Carmen Martinez. She was one of nine children, and sadly, her sister Josefina Martinez and brother Felipe Martinez preceded her in death. Maria's family meant the world to her, and she was a devoted wife to her husband Jesus Cortez, whom she married in December of 1977.
Maria's love for her family knew no bounds. She found joy in family gatherings, where she could spend quality time with her children and grandchildren. Her nurturing and selfless soul will forever be remembered and cherished by her children, Jesus Cortez, Jessica Cortez-Gonzales, and Veronica Cortez.
In addition to her children, Maria leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her eight grandchildren: Cassandra Cortez, Ashley Gonzales, Everette Cortez, Jaydin Padilla, Katelynn Gonzales, Ethan Cortez, Dominic Gonzales, and Luisa Estrada. Her great-grandchild, Austin Lopez, will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
Maria had a passion for cooking and trying new recipes, and her culinary skills were admired by all. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as music, dancing, and even the occasional visit to the casinos. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
To honor Maria's memory, her loved ones will serve as pallbearers during her final journey: Jesus Cortez, Avelardo Martinez, Jose Arturo Martinez, Everette Cortez, Ethan Cortez, and Cris Gonzales. Their presence will symbolize the love and support that Maria's family will continue to provide for one another.
Visitation for Maria Martinez will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West, located at 128 N Resler Dr, El Paso, Texas 79912. A Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM, offering a time for reflection and prayer.
The funeral mass will take place on Monday, October 9th, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, located at 1118 N Mesa, El Paso, Texas 79912. Following the mass, the rite of committal will be held at 11:30 AM at Memory Gardens of the Valley, located at 4900 McNutt Rd, Santa Teresa, NM.
